The Fish Police

In the mid-1980s, Fishwrap Productions published The Fish Police, a 12-issue comic series created, written, and drawn by Steve Moncuse. Set in a murky, noir-inspired underwater city, it follows Inspector Gill and a cast of aquatic characters—including Angelfish, Hook, Oscar the Octopus, the Chief, and Doctor Calamari—through a blend of crime drama and dark comedy. Moncuse’s singular vision gave the series a distinctive, offbeat voice that stands out in the indie-comics landscape of its era.
