Who is Hazel Nutt?

Hazel Nutt is a member of the comedic Nutt family, whose eccentric domestic antics formed the basis of a humour strip in the British weekly comic Valiant. She shares her world with relatives including Nora, Ches, and Wal Nutt.

Hazel Nutt burst onto the pages of Valiant in October 1962, a Silver Age creation from the sharp collaborative minds of Kenneth Bulmer and Jesús Blasco, and part of the wonderfully named Nutt family whose domestic antics clearly kept British readers entertained well into the early 1970s. Published by IPC across Valiant and Valiant and Smash!, she shares her comic-book world with a delightfully eccentric cast — including Nora, Ches, and Wal Nutt, plus the memorable likes of "Maggot" Malone and the grandly titled Captain Hercules Hurricane. A charming slice of classic British comics humour from the golden era of IPC's weekly anthologies, Hazel is a reminder of just how rich and varied the Silver Age was beyond the superhero titles dominating the American market.
