Harry Matthews
Harry Matthews is a supporting character introduced alongside Etrigan the Demon, moving in the circle of Jason Blood and Randu Singh in Jack Kirby's supernatural series. An ordinary human among mythic figures, he serves as a grounded presence amid demonic and Arthurian threats.
Harry Matthews stepped onto the Bronze Age comics scene in the very first issue of Jack Kirby's The Demon in 1972 β as auspicious a debut as any DC character could hope for. Over roughly fifteen years, Harry carved out a quiet but consistent presence, sharing pages with some genuinely mythic company: Etrigan the Demon, Jason Blood, Randu Singh, and the legendary figures of Merlin and Morgaine le Fey. His appearances stretch across The Demon and Action Comics, and the fact that one of his handful of issues carries key-issue status speaks to the significance of the stories he was part of. A Kirby original with that kind of pedigree is always worth a second look on the longbox hunt.
