A product of John Byrne's landmark reinvention of the Superman mythos, Dr. Gretchen Kelley stepped onto the scene in 1988 amid one of DC's most celebrated eras of storytelling. Her five appearances place her in rarefied company — sharing pages with Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and the towering presence of Lex Luthor across the pages of Superman and Action Comics. She may be a compact presence in the catalog, but any character woven into Byrne's tightly crafted Metropolis deserves a second look from serious collectors of the Copper Age.
