Who is Doggo?
Doggo burst onto the underground comix scene in 1983, debuting in the pages of Weirdo — Last Gasp's gloriously irreverent anthology that was home to some of the most boundary-pushing cartooning of the Bronze Age. Created by Josh Friedman and Drew Friedman, this character shares their ink-stained world with the likes of Robert Crumb and Aline Kominsky-Crumb, which tells you everything about the wild, countercultural company Doggo keeps. With appearances stretching across fourteen years and turning up even in The R. Crumb Coffee Table Art Book, Doggo occupies a genuinely fascinating niche in the underground tradition — rare enough to feel like a discovery, yet connected to the very heart of alternative comics royalty.
