Butterball
Butterball is a Cenobite from the Clive Barker's Hellraiser horror anthology, a grotesque supernatural being who inhabits the same dark realm as Pinhead and the other servants of suffering and transformation. Like all Cenobites, Butterball represents a twisted fusion of pleasure and pain.
Few corners of the Marvel catalog are as deliciously dark as the world of Clive Barker's Hellraiser, and Butterball is one of its genuinely unsettling inhabitants β a Cenobite figure who emerged in 1991, right at the cusp of the Modern Age, when Marvel was pushing into bold, mature horror territory. Debuted in issue #6 by creators Erik Saltzgaber and Joe Barruso, this character keeps extraordinarily grim company: sharing pages with Pinhead himself, the Female Cenobite, and the tragic Elliott Spencer across the Hellraiser and Pinhead series. With only seven catalog appearances across a short 1991β1994 window, Butterball is a rare find β the kind of deep-cut horror character that serious collectors of Barker's comics universe quietly prize.
