Who is Buckaroo Banzai?

Buckaroo Banzai is a Renaissance-man adventurer — brilliant neurosurgeon, physicist, rock musician, and test pilot — who leads a team of heroic troubleshooters called the Hong Kong Cavaliers, based on the 1984 film of the same name.

Few characters arrive with quite the swagger of Buckaroo Banzai, who burst onto the Bronze Age comics scene in 1984's Marvel Super Special #33, brought to life by Bill Mantlo and Mark Texeira. A pulp-flavored phenomenon with just enough of everything — science, adventure, sheer cool — Banzai carved out a niche that kept him in print across nearly three decades, from Marvel's pages all the way through 2013. His catalog appearances are select and special, including the evocative Phases of the Moon: Full Moon, where he shares adventures with a remarkable roster of pulp legends like The Spider, Domino Lady, and Richard Wentworth. For collectors who love their heroes rare, cinematic, and steeped in that gloriously anything-goes Bronze Age spirit, Buckaroo Banzai is absolutely worth tracking down.
