Brer Terrapin
Brer Terrapin is a slow-but-wise tortoise character rooted in American folk tradition, appearing in Disney comics adaptations of the Brer Rabbit stories. He navigates backwoods adventures alongside Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, and other familiar figures from that Southern folklore world.
Slow and steady wins the race — and earns a place in comics history. Brer Terrapin made his four-color debut in 1970's Walt Disney Comics Digest #19, brought to life by the prolific Disney comics artist Tony Strobl during the Silver Age. This folksy character turns up in the pages of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories and Walt Disney Comics Digest, sharing adventures with beloved figures like Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, and even Huey, Dewey, and Louie Duck. With a catalog presence stretching all the way to 2018, Brer Terrapin is a quiet little gem for collectors who love the deep cuts of Disney comics history.
