Battlestar
Lemar Hoskins was a former U.S. Army soldier and close friend of John Walker who underwent the Power Broker augmentation process to gain superhuman strength, later becoming the patriotic hero Battlestar and serving as Walker's partner.
Battlestar burst onto the Marvel scene in 1988, debuting in Captain America #341 courtesy of writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Kieron Dwyer β a Copper Age creation born from one of comics' most celebrated runs on the Star-Spangled Avenger's title. Affiliated with the Serpent Society and sharing pages with heavy-hitters like Captain America, Steve Rogers, Diamondback, and the Red Skull's own Johann Shmidt, this character was dropped straight into the deep end of Marvel's most politically charged corners. A presence across three-plus decades and titles ranging from Captain America to Silver Sable and the Wild Pack to Civil War Chronicles, Battlestar is a fascinating piece of late-'80s Marvel DNA β the kind of character that rewards the curious collector willing to dig into the rich, layered storytelling Gruenwald made his signature.
