Who is Augustín?

Born into the sun-drenched, mythic world of Palomar that Gilbert Hernandez was conjuring in the early pages of Love and Rockets, Augustín made his debut in 1983 — right at the heart of one of the Bronze Age's most celebrated independent comics. A Fantagraphics gem, Love and Rockets was already announcing itself as something extraordinary, and Augustín shares those early, formative pages with a vivid cast including Sheriff Borro, Chelo, and Carmen. His catalog footprint is small, which only adds to the intimate, textured quality of Hernandez's storytelling — every face in Palomar feels earned.
