Armstrong
Armstrong is an immortal man who has roamed the Earth for thousands of years, blessed (or cursed) with invulnerability and boundless strength. Partnered with the young monk-trained fighter Archer, he battles the ancient secret society known as the Sect.
Few characters make their entrance in a zero issue and immediately signal that something special is brewing, but Armstrong did exactly that when Jim Shooter, Bob Layton, and Barry Windsor-Smith launched Archer & Armstrong #0 in 1992, right at the dawn of the Copper/Modern Age. Published through Image and Acclaim, Armstrong has kept remarkable company over the decades β sharing pages with the likes of Aram Anni-Padda, Archer, the formidable Master Darque, and even Turok β suggesting a corner of comics mythology that's richer and stranger than it first appears. With appearances stretching all the way from 1992 to 2024, this is a character who has quietly endured while the industry transformed around him, anchored most prominently in the Archer & Armstrong series and the ambitious Deathmate crossover event. For collectors with a taste for Valiant-adjacent history and the hidden gems of early-'90s independent publishing, Armstrong is absolutely worth a closer look.
