Ajax
Ajax is a sadistic Marvel villain who emerged from the same Weapon X-adjacent program that created Deadpool, serving as an enforcer under Doctor Killebrew. His brutal conditioning stripped away his capacity for pain — and compassion — making him a near-unstoppable physical threat to Wade Wilson.
Born from the twisted imagination of Joe Kelly and Walter McDaniel in Deadpool #17 (1998), Ajax is one of Marvel's more chilling Modern Age antagonists — a figure whose very name carries a grim irony. Emerging from the same dark corner of the Marvel Universe that gave us Wade Wilson and the notorious Doctor Killebrew, Ajax carved out a memorable place in Deadpool's rogue's gallery during an era when that corner of Marvel was at its most gleefully dangerous. Though his catalog footprint is compact, the company he keeps — Deadpool, Zoe Culloden, Francis Fanny — speaks to a character embedded in some of the most entertaining and boundary-pushing Marvel storytelling of the late '90s and beyond. If you're diving deep into the Merc with a Mouth's history, Ajax is exactly the kind of villain whose handful of appearances punch well above their weight.
