Who Is Supergirl?

Supergirl — real name Kara Zor-El — is Superman's Kryptonian cousin and one of DC's most beloved heroes. She was rocketed to Earth as a teenager after her home city of Argo City survived Krypton's destruction, only to later face its own doom. Under Earth's yellow sun, she gained the same extraordinary powers as Superman — flight, super-strength, heat vision, and more — and took up the mantle of Supergirl. She first appeared in Action Comics #252 (1959), created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. Over the decades she's starred in numerous solo series, played a pivotal role in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 (her legendary death), and enjoyed a popular TV adaptation. Linda Danvers and Matrix are notable alternate versions of the character, while Power Girl (Kara Zor-L) is her Earth-2 counterpart.
