About the series
From 1993 to 1998, Fantagraphics published Zippy Quarterly, a showcase for Bill Griffith’s surreal, pop-culture-obsessed universe. Anchored by the pinheaded Zippy and a rotating cast including the grumpy Griffy, the philosophical Mr. Toad, and the existential Shelf-Life, each issue delivered a dense mix of one-page gags, serialized absurdity, and sharp satire. Griffith’s singular voice—equal parts Dadaist and social commentator—made this series a vital, weirdly endearing chronicle of late-20th-century Americana.
