About the series
In the late 1960s, Akita Shoten published Yuyake Bancho, a 17-issue manga series written primarily by Ikki Kajiwara and illustrated by Toshio Shoji. The series centers on a tough, rebellious high school "bancho" (gang leader) navigating the violent and honor-bound world of postwar Japanese youth culture. Known for its gritty, kinetic art and Kajiwara's signature blend of melodrama and martial-arts action, Sunset Bancho stands as a foundational work in the "bancho" genre, capturing the restless spirit of its era.
