About the series
Peter Milligan and Michael Allred’s X-Statix (2002–2004) took Marvel’s mutant concept and turned it into a savage satire of celebrity culture, following a team of publicity-hungry, morally ambiguous characters like Dead Girl, Orphan, and Venus Dee Milo. With Mike Allred’s crisp pop-art visuals and Paul Pope’s guest contributions, the series gleefully subverted superhero conventions by treating death, fame, and media manipulation as the team’s real adversaries. This short-lived but influential run remains a cult touchstone for its unflinching, darkly comic deconstruction of what it means to be a hero in a tabloid age.
