About the series
Launched in 1979 and running for 47 issues through 2017, World War 3 Illustrated is a pioneering anthology of political comics and graphic journalism, published under its own imprint. Most closely associated with artist-writer Peter Kuper, alongside painted contributions from Eric Drooker and Sue Coe, the series skewered American power with recurring appearances by presidents from Lyndon Johnson to George H.W. Bush. It stands as a vital, decades-spanning document of dissident cartooning, merging punk-era outrage with sophisticated visual commentary on war, inequality, and social justice.
