About the series
The US Forest Service’s beloved mascot, Woodsy Owl, starred in his own 10-issue comic series from Western Publishing (1973–1976). With a conservationist’s mission to “Give a Hoot—Don’t Pollute,” the cheerful owl and his animal friends taught young readers about environmental stewardship through lighthearted adventures. The series was most frequently written by Don R. Christensen and drawn by Paul Norris and Al Hubbard, bringing a wholesome, educational tone to the Silver Age’s final years. A charming artifact of 1970s public-service comics, it remains a nostalgic reminder of the era’s eco-awareness push.
