Witzend

Wonderful Publishing Company · 1968–1982 · 6 issues
About the series

A landmark of the underground comix movement, Witzend was a creator-owned anthology that ran for six issues from 1968 to 1982 under the Wonderful Publishing Company. Edited by Bill Pearson, the series served as a showcase for experimental and personal work from some of the era's most distinctive talents, including frequent contributors Art Spiegelman and Jeff Jones. By giving artists complete control over their content, Witzend helped pioneer the shift toward independent, non-mainstream comics in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
