About the series
From 2003 to 2007, Checker Book Publishing Group collected the pioneering early newspaper strips of legendary cartoonist Winsor McCay—best known for Little Nemo in Slumberland—into a nine-issue series. Featuring rarely seen pre-Nemo work like Dream of the Rarebit Fiend and A Pilgrim's Progress, the series was curated with context by writers Paul Dubuc and Mark Thompson. It preserves a vital chapter in comics history, showcasing McCay's surreal imagination and technical mastery before he became a household name.
