About the series

In 1990, Marvel Comics brought the shared-world of George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards mosaic novels to the four-color page with a four-issue limited series. Writers Lewis Shiner, Walton Simons, and Howard Waldrop adapted the series' alternate history where an alien virus has created superhumans—known as Aces and Jokers—alongside the visual talents of artists Barry Kitson, Marshall Rogers, and Lee Weeks. This comic stands as a key early crossover between prose and superhero comics, offering a gritty, character-driven take on the genre that predates many of Marvel's later mature-reader titles. It remains a touchstone for fans of the Wild Cards universe.
