Wendy Whitebread
Fantagraphics · 1990–1992 · 2 issues
About the series
From 1990 to 1992, Fantagraphics published just two issues of Wendy Whitebread, a short-lived satirical comic by Anton Drek that skewered the conventions of the crime and private eye genres. Drek, who both wrote and drew the series, used the title character—a tough, chain-smoking female detective—to lampoon hard-boiled tropes with a mix of crude humor and pointed social commentary. Though brief, the series stands as a cult oddity from the alternative comics boom of the early '90s, showcasing Fantagraphics' willingness to publish transgressive, offbeat material.
