About the series
In this darkly comedic manga adaptation of the hit Japanese novel and anime, Welcome to the NHK follows Tatsuhiro Satou, a 22-year-old hikikomori (recluse) who believes a sinister conspiracy called the NHK is behind his social isolation. Published by Tokyopop from 2006 to 2008 across eight issues, the series was shepherded by writer Tatsuhiko Takimoto and artist Kendi Oiwa, capturing the anxious, paranoid humor of a young man trying to reconnect with the world. Its unflinching yet compassionate portrayal of mental health and otaku culture made it a defining work of the mid-2000s manga boom in English.
