In the early 1970s, Mexican publisher Editora de Periódicos, S. C. L. "La Prensa" brought the sword-and-sorcery fury of Vulcano el Bárbaro to newsstands across 26 issues. This Spanish-language series, running from 1971 to 1973, channeled the barbarian revival through the combined talents of writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith, who imbued the title with the epic, visceral energy that defined the genre's Bronze Age renaissance.
