About the series
First published in 2016 by Urban Comics, Violent Cases is a striking graphic novella that pairs writer Neil Gaiman with artist Dave McKean, whose haunting, collage-like visuals define the book’s mood. The story follows a man recalling childhood visits to an elderly, possibly unreliable osteopath who once treated Al Capone’s gangsters, weaving memory and fractured history into a single, atmospheric issue. Though brief, this work stands as an early, essential collaboration between Gaiman and McKean, showcasing the experimental storytelling that would later define their celebrated Sandman covers and The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch.
