Vagabond
Conrad · 2001–2006 · 44 issues
About the series
In the early 2000s, Conrad published a 44-issue English-language run of Vagabond, a sweeping manga epic that follows the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi’s journey toward mastery and enlightenment. Adapted from Eiji Yoshikawa’s novel Musashi, the series is most celebrated for Takehiko Inoue’s breathtaking, ink-washed artwork and his meditative exploration of violence, discipline, and the samurai path. Though only covering a portion of Inoue’s ongoing Japanese original, this Conrad edition remains a key entry point for Western readers to one of the most visually and philosophically ambitious historical comics ever created.
