Toxic Avenger
Marvel · 1991–1992 · 11 issues
About the series
In the early 1990s, Marvel Comics unleashed the Toxic Avenger into its own madcap, hyperviolent series, adapting the underground film antihero for a gory, satirical comic run spanning 11 issues. Writer Doug Moench, alongside artists Rodney Ramos, Rod Ramos, and Val Mayerik, chronicled the adventures of the monstrous, mop-wielding hero—born from the transformed janitor Melvin Junko III—as he defended the streets of Tromaville alongside allies like Claire. This series stands as a bizarre, cult-classic footnote in Marvel’s history, capturing the era’s boundary-pushing, unapologetically crude humor and horror.
