In the late 1960s, French publisher Éditions des Remparts launched Tonnerre, a short-lived but punchy comic series that ran for just ten issues from 1967 to 1968. The series is most associated with the raw, kinetic artwork of its lead artist, whose name remains a footnote in the annals of French comics history. While its brief run means it never achieved widespread fame, Tonnerre captures a distinct moment in European genre comics, offering a glimpse into the action-adventure style that thrived on newsstands before the wave of more mature, auteur-driven bande dessinée took hold.
