About the series
From 2003 to 2004, Tokyopop brought Mia Ikumi's magical-girl manga Tokyo Mew Mew to English-reading audiences, with scripts adapted by Ikoi Hiroe, Reiko Yoshida, and Stuart Hazleton. This seven-issue series follows a group of girls infused with endangered-animal DNA, who gain superpowers and transform into heroes to protect the planet from alien threats. Combining ecological themes with classic transformation sequences and a dose of sweet romance, it became a beloved entry in the early-2000s shojo boom in the West.
