The Scum Also Rises: An Anthology of Comic Art

In 1988, Fantagraphics published this single-issue anthology of satirical comic art, a showcase for the work of underground comix veteran Skip Williamson. Titled as a pun on Hemingway, the collection gathers Williamson's politically charged, grotesque cartoons and strips from the late '80s, offering a snapshot of his enduring, confrontational style. Though it stands alone, the book captures the tail end of the underground comix movement's raw energy, preserved by a publisher dedicated to the form's history.
