About the series
In 2012, DC relaunched the Winged Warrior with The Savage Hawkman, a short-lived two-issue series from the publisher’s New 52 era. Written by James Bonny, Mark Poulton, and Rob Liefeld, with art by Joe Bennett and Philip Tan, this volume reimagined Carter Hall’s alien Nth metal armor as a living, transforming weapon. Though it barely got off the ground before being replaced, it stands as a curious footnote in Hawkman’s modern mythology—a brief, action-heavy take that leaned into the character’s savage, primal edge.
