Dave Stevens’s lovingly crafted homage to 1930s pulp adventure and serial cinema debuted in 1991, a single issue from HarperCollins that introduced the world to Cliff Secord and his amazing jetpack. Stevens, who both wrote and drew every page, poured his passion for retro design and pin-up artistry into this stylish, self-contained tale. Though a brief initial outing, The Rocketeer established a timeless hero and a vivid, nostalgic world that would later expand into a beloved franchise.
