The Privateers

Tom Grummett both wrote and drew this short-lived spacefaring adventure for Vanguard Graphics, launched in 1987. Over its two-issue run, The Privateers introduced a gritty, independent take on interstellar piracy and mercenary crews, standing out as a creator-owned project from a veteran artist better known for mainstream superhero work. Though brief, it offers a snapshot of the late-80s indie comics boom, where established talents could experiment outside corporate constraints.
