About the series
In the late 1980s, DC Comics launched The New Guardians, a 12-issue series that reimagined the concept of a global super-team. Written primarily by Cary Bates, Kevin Dooley, and Steve Englehart, with artwork by Joe Staton and Pat Broderick, the book assembled a diverse cast including Celia Windward, Extraño, Floro, Gloss, Gregorio de la Vega, and Harbinger. The series is notable for its ambitious attempt to reflect a more multicultural and socially conscious era, marking one of DC's first major pushes toward inclusivity in its superhero lineup. Though short-lived, it remains a fascinating artifact of late-80s DC experimentation.
