The Man of Steel

John Byrne’s 1987–1993 The Man of Steel rebooted Superman for DC Comics in the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era. This six-issue limited series (not an ongoing) streamlined the Last Son of Krypton’s origin, powers, and supporting cast, stripping away Silver Age excesses for a modern, grounded take. Written and drawn entirely by Byrne, it remains a defining, influential foundation for the character’s late-20th-century identity.
