The Divine

Boaz Lavie, Asaf Hanuka, and Tomer Hanuka's The Divine (First Second, 2015–present) is a single-issue graphic novel that reimagines the horrors of modern warfare through a fantastical lens. When two American soldiers in an unnamed Southeast Asian country encounter a child with explosive powers, they are drawn into a conflict that blurs the line between ancient myth and contemporary violence. The Hanuka brothers' lush, kinetic artwork gives this taut, morally complex story a visceral, cinematic energy.
