The City of Belgium

Brecht Evens’s The City of Belgium (2021–present, Drawn & Quarterly) is a single-issue graphic novel that unfolds over the course of one feverish night in a fictionalized Brussels. Evens, the series’ sole writer and artist, uses his signature watercolor style and fractured narrative to follow a group of revelers whose intertwining stories blur the line between ecstasy and unease. A vivid, immersive portrait of a city’s after-dark soul, it showcases Evens’s mastery of mood and social observation.
