About the series
In the late 1950s, Brazil's Editora Brasil-América (EBAL) launched this second series of Tarzan, a 99-issue run that brought Edgar Rice Burroughs' jungle lord to a new generation of readers. The series is most associated with the lush, dynamic artwork of artist José Menezes, whose expressive style defined the look of the lord of the apes for Brazilian audiences. Spanning 1959 to 1965, it stands as a key chapter in EBAL's ambitious program of licensed adventure comics, preserving the classic pulp spirit of the character.
