Tales to Astonish
Marvel · 1979–1981 · 14 issues
About the series
Marvel revived the Tales to Astonish name for a 14-issue run from 1979 to 1981, centering entirely on the undersea kingdom of Atlantis. Under the steady hand of writer Roy Thomas and a rotating team of top-tier artists including John Buscema, Sal Buscema, and Gene Colan, the series followed Sub-Mariner Namor as he navigated royal intrigue, threats from Lord Seth, and the complex legacy of his people. It’s a focused, Bronze Age deep dive into one of Marvel’s oldest heroes, expanding the mythology of Lady Dorma, Lord Vashti, and Diane Arliss without the anthology format of its predecessor.
