Sword of the Atom

In the early 1980s, DC Comics shrunk the Atom down to a microscopic scale for a mature, sci-fi-tinged miniseries, Sword of the Atom, written by Jan Strnad and illustrated by Gil Kane. This four-issue prestige-format story stranded Ray Palmer in a savage alien jungle, where he wielded a sword among tiny civilizations. The series is remembered for its ambitious, darker take on the character and for Kane's lush, detailed artwork.
