About the series
In the mid-1990s, Alan Moore and Rick Veitch brought their distinctive, metatextual sensibility to Maximum Press for this six-issue revival of the classic hero Supreme. The series reimagines the Superman-analogue Supreme (and his alter ego, Ethan Crane) through a nostalgic, Silver Age-inspired lens, blending cosmic-level adventures with a deep affection for comic-book history. With art by Veitch, Joe Bennett, and Richard Horie, the story also weaves in allies like Mighty Man, Professor Night, Gloriana Demeter, and Glory, creating a rich, self-aware superhero tapestry. It remains a key example of Moore’s playful deconstruction and celebration of the genre, influencing how creators approach legacy characters.
