Super Classics Illustrated

A single, undated issue published by Thorpe & Porter in 1952, Super Classics Illustrated was a British attempt to adapt classic literature into comic form. The series is notable primarily for being the first comic to feature a new, original superhero character named "The Spider" in a backup story, distinct from the better-known American pulp hero. Though the series ran for only one issue, it represents an early, obscure effort in the UK's post-war comic scene to blend educational content with original genre fiction.
