About the series
Since 1976, Subvert Comics has been a defiant, single-issue statement from Saving Grace, a project most indelibly shaped by the acerbic pen of writer Algernon Backwash and the raw, expressive linework of artist Spain. This debut issue establishes the series' core premise as a blistering, satirical assault on the conventions of the medium itself, using the comic form to deconstruct the very idea of power and narrative. It matters as a foundational artifact of the underground comix movement, a concentrated blast of countercultural energy that refuses to be anything less than confrontational.
