Starriors

The Starriors (1984–1985) from Marvel Comics was a short-lived, six-issue series centered on a war between sentient, transformable robots in a post-human world. Written and illustrated by a team including Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden, the series blended sci-fi action with a surprisingly dark, philosophical tone as factions of these mechanical beings—the Autobots-like Protectors and the Decepticon-esque Destructors—clashed. Though it ended abruptly, the series remains a cult curiosity for its ambitious world-building and striking, Golden-helmed art that pushed beyond typical toy-tie-in fare.
