Massimo Mattioli’s Squeak the Mouse (2022–present, Fantagraphics) is a revival of his notorious, wordless black-and-white series, originally a subversive parody of classic cartoon violence. Mattioli’s art pushes the slapstick to surreal, grotesque extremes, following the titular mouse and his feline tormentor through a loop of brutal, Looney Tunes-inspired mayhem.
