About the series

In the mid-1980s, French publisher Albin Michel released Squeak the Mouse, a short-lived, two-issue series that stands as a brutally satirical, adult-oriented parody of classic cartoon violence. Created by Italian artist Massimo Mattioli, the comic follows a hapless mouse and a cat locked in a cycle of extreme, Looney Tunes-inspired slapstick, pushing the genre's gags to their most graphic and absurd extremes. Though brief, the series became a cult object for its unflinching, transgressive humor, demonstrating how the visual language of children's cartoons could be weaponized for a very different audience.
