Spirit

A short-lived but visually striking French series from Futuropolis, Spirit (1981–1983) ran for just three issues, presenting a distinctive European take on the classic masked detective. The series is most associated with artist and co-writer Jacques Tardi, whose moody, detailed linework and atmospheric storytelling gave the character a gritty, noir-tinged sensibility. Though brief, this run is notable for its creative reimagining of the property within the Franco-Belgian comics tradition, offering a unique counterpoint to the American original.
