Spelljammer

In the early 1990s, DC Comics adapted the gonzo Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting Spelljammer into a 15-issue series, blending fantasy with swashbuckling space opera. Writers Barbara Kesel, Adam Blaustein, and Don Kraar charted the adventures of misfits aboard living ships that sail through a magical cosmos, while artists like Joe Quesada, Michael Collins, and Rags Morales gave the setting’s bizarre worlds and creatures a gritty, dynamic look. Though short-lived, the series remains a cult touchstone for its ambitious attempt to translate D&D’s most offbeat premise into comics.
