Son of Mad
New American Library · 1959–1972 · 3 issues
About the series
A short-lived but memorable satirical comic from New American Library, Son of Mad ran for three issues between 1959 and 1972, carrying on the irreverent, gag-a-page spirit of its parent magazine. The series is most closely associated with the iconic cartoonist Jack Davis, whose distinctive, rubbery linework and exaggerated characters defined much of the book’s visual humor. Though brief, it stands as a curious footnote in the Mad-verse, offering a concentrated blast of mid-century parody from one of the era’s great comic artists.
