Smash super

A short-lived but punchy French superhero anthology from S.E.G, Smash Super ran for 32 issues between 1963 and 1965, offering a distinctly Gallic take on the costumed-crimefighter craze. Best remembered for its house style of bold, dynamic artwork and its roster of original heroes—none borrowed from American imports—the series carved a niche for itself in the early '60s European market. Though it didn't achieve the longevity of its stateside inspirations, it remains a curious snapshot of France's own brief, bright flirtation with the caped-and-masked genre.
